Before I share some general information about what I'm going to be doing for the next twelve weeks, I need to give an overview of my previous attempt at this project. BackgroundLast year, I did writing for Genius Hour as well. My goal was to write five to seven chapters of a novel during the twelve weeks of this project. I didn't even come close. I underestimated how much time and effort was required for such an undertaking as this. When the opportunity for a do over, I decided to take it. Overview and GoalsFor these twelve weeks, my goal is to write 20,000 to 25,000 words of a novel or novella. This time around I'm going to roughly follow the plan I had last time. All the world building, plot outlining, character designing, and researching will done in the months of September and October. I hope to have the first chapter written before NaNoWriMo starts. For those of you who don't know, NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a challenge that spans the month of November. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel within a month (a link to their website is on my home page). I will be getting the bulk of my writing done then. December has been reserved for editing. I plan to organize this chaos into manageable thirty to forty-five minute periods scheduled on the weekends or whenever I have free time. When I have finished with the excerpt, it will be posted onto my website. I will also write up a sort of evaluation blog post.
Besides actually writing the novel excerpt, I desire to learn more about the writing process in general and how I can better manage my time (as I will also be concerned about homework, extracurricular activities, and other related commitments). I also wish to avoid the mistakes I made previously. My blog is meant to be a reflection of what I'm doing and learning during this project. If I fail, it will hopefully be not as bad as last time.
